Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County 911 board announced the official start of the network microwave system upgrade. The full statement is as follows:
“Today is a momentous occasion for Calhoun County 911 and all first responders in Calhoun County and Cherokee County.
With the full cooperative financial support from all our Cities, JSU and the Calhoun County Commission, this project has begun — we accepted delivery of new microwave antenna dishes to placed at up to 300 feet in height on our existing public safety tower sites.This is the first step to begin upgrading the network microwave system to support the future of our mission-critical 700-800 Mhz P25 Public Safety Communications System. The microwave network is the backbone that connects all tower sites – which provides continuous two-way portable and mobile emergency communications for all our first responders.Our elected and appointed officials always work together to protect health and safety, so we are able provide the citizens of Calhoun County with cutting edge technology to save lives.

This system has been in the works and has been addressed at the most recent 911 Board meetings. Last January the first shipments were expected so this is a truly a project that has been in the making for quite some time.
