Calhoun County, AL – Wellborn gets first two wins of the season. White Plains, Pleasant Valley, Ohatchee all win in games at PV. Alexandria splits. Piedmont wins second in a row. Jacksonville wins third in a row. Faith Christian splits.

 

WELLBORN — Wellborn baseball scored its first two victories of the season Saturday, beating B.B. Comer 8-3 and Jacksonville Christian 8-4 at home.

Against Comer, Liam Avery tripled with two RBIs, and Tanner Ingram doubled with an RBI.

Will Phillips, Aziah Amberson and Dozer Hayes each had a single and RBI.

Brennan Talley went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Zachary Pressley hit a double.

Ingram worked a complete game, allowing nine hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and one walk.

Pressley and Talley had two hits and two RBIs apiece against JCA. Both of Talley’s hits were doubles.

Phillips went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Ashton Woodward singled with an RBI. Ingram tripled and scored two runs.

Amberson worked the final 5 2/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits and four walks but no earned runs. He struck out nine batters.

JCA’s Noah Lee had two RBIs, and Byrson Dowdey went 2-for-4 with a run.

WHITE PLAINS 11, PLEASANT VALLEY 9: At Pleasant Valley, Ian Douglas stole home in the top of the fifth inning to give White Plains the lead for good.

The Wildcats rallied from an 8-1 deficit with eight runs on five hits in the fourth inning, taking a 9-8 lead. Cooper Tinney’s two-run double was the biggest blow.

Will Underwood’s sacrifice grounder tied the game 9-9 in the bottom of the fourth.

For White Plains, Tinney and Dalton Luker drove in two runs apiece, and Tinney scored two runs. Aiden Kilgore went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Douglas and Coleman Ray each had two hits and an RBI.

Braxton Curles and and Paul Laube had an RBI apiece.

Braxxon Borelli got the win in relief, allowing four hits, one earned run and no walks with four strikeouts.

Pleasant Valley’s Underwood and Braxton Salster drove in two runs apiece, and Salster hit a triple. John Garrett Bryant had a double, RBI and two runs. Samuel Duncan and Noah Johnson drove in a run apiece, and Johnson went 3-for-4 with a run.

PLEASANT VALLEY 16, OHATCHEE 6: Pleasant Valley’s Caleb Shew went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.

Underwood went 2-for-2 with four runs and an RBI, and Salster had a single, two RBIs and two runs. Bryant doubled, had two RBIs and scored three runs.

Johnson and Logan Williams had an RBI apiece.

Bryce Freeman got the start and the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Ohatchee’s Jesse Baswell went 4-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs. Will Folsom went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jake Roberson went 2-for-4 with two runs.

OHATCHEE 5, WHITE PLAINS 3: Folsom doubled and drove in two runs, and Roberson had a single and RBI for Ohatchee. Xavier Luna went 2-for-4 with a double and run, and Ethan Jones drove in a run.

Folsom pitched a two-hitter over seven innings, allowing three earned runs and five walks with eight strikeouts.

Curles and Ray accounted for White Plains’ hits, and Ray hit a double.

ALEXANDRIA SPLITS: Alexandria (4-2) split two games at James Clemens on Saturday, falling to James Clemens 8-2 and beating North Jackson 9-3.

Against North Jackson, Ty Brown had a single and two RBIs. Ian Cartwright had a triple and RBI, and Justin Campbell had a double and RBI.

Brodie Slaton doubled and scored a run, and Aiden Brunner hit a triple.

Zach Baskins got the start and worked four innings, allowing five hits, no earned runs and one walk with four strikeouts. Samuel Henegar worked three innings of relief, allowing one hit, one walk and one earned run with four strikeouts.

Against James Clemens, Brunner singled with an RBI, and Brown drove in a run. Nic Thompson went 2-for-3 with a run.

PIEDMONT 10, SARDIS 6: Piedmont (2-1) pounded out 12 hits, with McClane Mohon, Kale Austin, Hayes Gunn and Brodie Homesley delivering two hits apiece.

Homesley, Gunn, Austin, Cole Wilson and Trevor Pike each had an RBI. Wilson and Jonah Pike each hit a double.

Homesley got the win, working the first five innings. He allowed two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts.

JACKSONVILLE 12, HOKES BLUFF 4: Kingston Peeler and Gavin Peeler drove in three runs a piece, and Jacksonville (3-3) made it three wins in a row.

Kingston Peeler went 2-for-5, and Gavin Peeler 2-for-4.

Jacksonville also got an RBI apiece from Xavier Lemon and Easton Lackey, and Bradyn Loggins went 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Matthew Parker worked four innings of relief for the win, entering after Jacksonville scored five runs in the top of the second inning. He allowed one hit and no earned runs.

Starter John Ducar, Kingston Peeler and Ryan Mitchell worked an inning apiece. Jacksonville’s four pitchers combined to allow four hits.

FAITH CHRISTIAN SPLITS: The Lions (1-2) beat Anniston 13-3 and lost to Gaylesville 19-9.

Against Anniston, Will Smith went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs. Kash Sharma, Jayden Smith and Toby Ricard each hit a single and had two RBIs.

Eli Robinson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Vinson Montgomery went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Colton Reese pitched six innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and one walk with six strikeouts.

Against Gaylesville, Sharma, Carson Harris, Reese and Robinson each had an RBI. Harris went 2-for-3 with two runs.

For Anniston, Andrew Nelson and Deavion Adams had an RBI apiece. Nelson, Parker Nelson and Dylan Goodson each had a single.
