- David West with the County Extension Office introduced Shaquilla Burks of A Vision Daycare and also Sheree Taylor. Ms. Burks has received certification for Supporting Breastfeeding mothers using daycare. She is now teaching this certification to childcare providers in Calhoun County. This is available to both licensed and unlicensed providers and is free. The purpose is to stress that breast feeding is the best start at life and can be continued even in a daycare environment.
- The second presentation was made by J.D. Hess. Commission Hess welcomed Jerry Oaks of Back Country Horsemen of America as well as Sherry Brown and Gemma. The Back Country Horsemen have adopted Sassy Tails, a special needs program. The program works with children and helps them have fun. The goal is not just to teach them to ride. It is to give them a fun experience and to also give their parents the opportunity to just see their children enjoy life. Commissioner Hess presented Gemma with a check for $1,500 to continue supporting this program. They offer many activities through this program. A few activities are the paint a pony program (animal friendly paints are used) and various games. They also provide ramps for wheelchair accessibility. The McClellen Chapter of Back Country Horseman is proud of this program and looks forward to adding more in the near future.
