  • Special Recognition – Calhoun County BOE Superintendent – Dr. Jose Reyes, Jr.
    • Commissioner Hess stated that he invited Dr. Reyes to come. HE also mentioned that the Sheriff had previously notes that Dr. Reyes had been the first Superintendent to invite to come and sit down and speak. Commissioner Hess went on to note that Dr. Reyes wants to communicate and be a part of the County and to work with the commission. He also stated that he personally appreciated him coming today to show that and that he has a lot of exciting things headed our way for the kids and children. He also said he was impressed with him and was “tickled to death to have someone that we can we can relate to and take care of our young people.” Dr. Reyes address the Commission and thanked them for having him here today. HE said he was looking forward to getting to know everybody and that Calhoun County has a a lot of great and exciting things happening. He wants to help raise awareness and get community involvement. He also said he was big on relationships and that “People don’t work with people, they don’t like.” He stressed he was excited to be here, and that there will be great things coming up! He said he wants the County to be a winner and the School System to be a winner.

      • Economic Development Project – Addendum I
        • The remaining scope of work to be completed jointly between the county and the cities is as follows:
          • County will excavate the detention pond to the limit shown on the Martin engineering drawing with a revision date of March 2021. As approved by the city. Waste material will be placed in a location directed by the city.
          • The county will excavate drainage ditch reference and city requests March 12 2021, and plate with rip rap materials provided by the city.
          • County to assist installation of 36″ pipe provided by the city extending from a detention pond to connect with the storm drain as shown on Martin engineer drawing with a revision date March 2021 as approved by the city.
          • The city is to construct various concrete structures (weir, junction junction box ) or similar structure at the diversion manhole location eight plus 97 to reduce inlet size of pipe downstream conflicts shown or growing by more than engineering with a revision date of March 2021 as approved by the city. County will assist by providing concrete materials approximately 10 cubic yards.
        • All of the provision parts and portions of the agreement hereby remain in full force and effect.
    • Credit Application/Rental Agreement – Unanimously Approved

    • Hazard Mitigation Grant Acceptance – Unanimously Approved
      • Hobson City Safe Room Projects
        • This project has been approved with federal funding. The total is $173,032.00. The federal portion is $129,774.00 and the non-federal share is $43,258.00
        • Quartly progress reports are required and the first report will be due on October 1, 2022.
      • Quad Cities Safe Room
        • This project has been approved with federal funding. The total is $68,218.00. The federal portion is $51,164.25 and the non-federal share is $17,054.75.

    • Regions Bank/Credit Card Terminal Agreement – Unanimously Approved
    • Opioid Litigation Settlement Resolution – Unanimously Approved

  • Public Comments
    • Dr. West wanted to remind everybody that the was the day for electrics recycling and thank the Commission for sponsoring that event.
    • Audrey Maxwell with the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce spoke about the international visitors coming for the Woodstock Classic and the Rubato Piano Competition at the Oxford Performing Arts Center.
    • Commission Hess mentioned the work that the Coosa Valley Youth have done to work on building a new trail designated for the Sassy Tails group at the McClellan Horse trails.
