    • Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Proclamation –  The Arc
      • Commissioner Shears shared that March has been designated as National Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to underscore the importance of integrating people of all abilities into every facet of society. Recognizing that disability is a natural aspect of the human experience, this designation emphasizes the right of individuals with disabilities to make choices and contribute meaningfully to society, despite any challenges they may face. The proclamation highlights the resilience and determination exhibited by individuals with developmental disabilities, acknowledging the essential role of education, employment, and community-based services in fostering opportunities for them to lead fulfilling lives. The Ark of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties is praised for its provision of support, education, advocacy, and public awareness to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. As integral members of the community, it is our collective responsibility to ensure their inclusive acceptance, respect their autonomy, and honor their experiences. By supporting them, we enrich the fabric of our community. Therefore, the Calhoun County Commission proclaims March 2024 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Calhoun County, urging all citizens to actively support efforts that enable all individuals to contribute meaningfully to our community.
