The ACCA represents Alabama’s 67 county governments. Its Board of Directors consists of three executive officers, past ACCA presidents who continue to serve in county government and representatives from each of the association’s 12 districts. The board helps govern the association’s direction and priorities.

“One of the most important priorities for counties is to have a strong working relationship with members of the Alabama Legislature,” ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield said. “Serving on this board is a tremendous responsibility within the ACCA, and Commissioner Shears has consistently proven himself to be prepared for the task.”

In addition to representing county governments at the state and federal levels, the ACCA provides educational programs for county officials and staff, administers insurance programs for county governments and employees, and provides legal assistance related to county government.

Shears will serve on the board during the association’s 2026-2027 term.
