Patterson Reappointed to National Leadership Position for the NACo Rural Action Caucus

Calhoun County, AL – The National Association of Counties (NACo) President Mary Jo McGuire reappointed Calhoun County, AL Commissioner Lee Patterson to a one-year term as Vice Chair of NACo’s Rural Action Caucus.

McGuire, a commissioner in Ramsey County, Minn., issued leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo’s president on July 24, at the conclusion of NACo’s annual conference, the nation’s largest convening of county leaders. Active in NACo for several years, Patterson is also a member of the Veterans and Military Services Committee.

Commissioner Lee Patterson spoke with the Calhoun Journal and shared that he was, “Very proud to serve in this postion because it is good to a have representative of Calhoun County recognized on a national level.” He went on to say he is humbled for the opportunity and looks forward to continuing to serve with NACo in this position as Vice Chair. Commissioner Patterson also stated, “Calhoun County is thriving and that isn’t just the work of the Commissioners. It is because of all the leadership in the county, all the businesses owners, and all the residents who come together to build up this county and not tear it down. We have wonderful people who a a part of this county and everyday I serve them is a proud moment for me.”

NACo’s Rural Action Caucus is the voice for America’s rural counties before Congress and the Administration. Nearly two-thirds of the nation’s 3,069 counties are designated as rural, with a combined population of 60 million. County elected officials from these rural areas are dedicated to solving many critical issues impacting rural life and development. These include infrastructure development, broadband deployment, development of new rural clinics and hospitals, road and bridge construction and maintenance, business development opportunities and many more county responsibilities. Since 1997, NACo’s Rural Action Caucus has addressed critical federal, state and local issues.
