Calhoun, County, AL – The Calhoun County Coroner, Patrick “Pat” Brown, has started a fundraiser to help the victim of a recent violent kidnapping attack against Betty Cobb. Pat Brown stated he has, “known Ms. Cobb forever and I feel horrible how a person that has dedicated her life to helping others could be attacked like this.”
Mr. Brown described Betty Cobb as one of the sweetest people he has met and would do anything for the community in which she served. Ms. Cobb has driven an ambulance, worked as an EMT, and is currently a volunteer at the Quad City Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Brown said, “She is like a den Mother in that fire station and with the surrounding community. She was always there to lend a hand or listen to someone when they needed it.”
Mr. Brown spoke to Ms. Cobb’s family to discuss the possibility of having a fundraiser and they all agreed that it may assist. The funds that will be raised are going to be used to upgrade and increase security features at Ms. Cobb’s residence. “No one deserves to feel unsafe in their home”, stated Mr. Brown, “she has given so much to the community that we can do a little to return the favor.”
A special account has been set up with the First Bank of Alabama in the name of Betty Cobb. The account is exclusive to the fundraiser and is not affiliated with any private or personal banking from any family member or Ms. Cobb herself. The account will only be accessible to Ms. Cobb and her designees. If you would like to make an online donation there has also been a gofundme account started and is being run by Pat Brown. The gofundme account is directly linked to the First Bank of Alabama account and all donations will be deposited into that account.
Ms. Cobb’s attacker was captured earlier this week in Kentucky and has been brought back to the Calhoun County Jail where he is being held on a four-million-dollar bond [see arrest article].
