Calhoun County Delegates Engage in National Convention Processes: A Bipartisan Perspective

Delegates

Calhoun County – Amid the ongoing 2024 national political conventions, Calhoun County proudly sends delegates to participate in the nomination processes of both major parties. Currently, Republican delegates are actively involved in the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while Democratic delegates are gearing up for their convention next month.

Senator Keith Kelley, currently attending the Republican National Convention, expressed his enthusiasm to the Calhoun Journal and commitment to the nomination process. “I am honored and excited to be a delegate at the National Republican Convention in Milwaukee Wisconsin,” Kelley stated. “This is a pivotal moment for the United States as we elect our next president. I am looking forward to the speeches, experiences, and most of all casting my vote for Donald Trump.”

James W. Bennett, selected for the Republican National Convention, emphasized the significance of his role within Alabama’s delegation to the Calhoun Journal. “It’s an honor to represent Alabama and participate in nominating Donald Trump,” Bennett affirmed. “Our Republican Party Executive Committee is committed to this process.”

Councilwoman Ciara Smith, selected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, highlighted, while speaking with the Calhoun Journal, the growth opportunities the event offers. “I look forward to the experience and the chance to network with leaders from across the country,” Smith noted. “This will be another opportunity to sharpen my leadership skills.”

Meanwhile, Delegate Pam Howard anticipates representing District 3 at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “I am honored to be part of the delegation nominating President Biden for his next term,” Howard remarked. “I look forward to contributing to the process.”

National political conventions are critical events where delegates like those from Calhoun County play a vital role in nominating presidential candidates and shaping their parties’ direction. Delegates convene to vote on confirming their choice of candidates based on state primaries and caucuses. Should no candidate secure a majority, delegates engage in successive rounds of voting.

The 2024 Republican National Convention, currently underway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, finalizes the Republican Party’s nominees, with Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee. The Democratic National Convention, scheduled for August in Chicago, Illinois, will presumptively nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for a second term.

As Calhoun County’s delegates contribute to these historic gatherings, their participation underscores the democratic process’s integrity and vitality in shaping America’s political future.
