Calhoun County Gardening – Marketmore 76: My Go-To Cucumber for Heat, Resilience, and Flavor

Marketmore 76 Cucumbers

Calhoun County, AL – The newest cucumber seed I am thrilled about is called Marketmore 76. I grew them in 2023 & 2024. I am hooked. I also attended a class that discussed them at the Anniston Calhoun Extension Office. There are many heirloom cucumber options. I have experimented with all the basics. However! Marketmore 76 produced vines that required less Neem Oil (fungicide, miticide, pesticide). I noticed the leaves were very tolerant of high heat above 85°-100° in the summer sun. I never saw any scorch marks on the leaves. I water several times weekly. Cucumbers need water. The cucumber skin was very insect-resistant in firmness. I organic garden. I could easily wash the cucumber, slice it without peeling it, and enjoy the flavor without a bitter skin taste. I enjoyed peeling the cucumbers for quick-sliced refrigerator pickles with heated vinegar, sugar, dill seed, and celery seed. The taste, in my opinion, of these cucumbers is very fresh without any acidic or bitter taste. The vines continued to produce as long as I picked the cucumbers daily. I plan to grow them in 2025!
