Calhoun County, AL – Wellborn scores with 2.2 seconds left to secure key Class 3A, Region victory over Randolph County. White Plains makes it two wins in a row. Jacksonville, Piedmont roll. Jax Christian finishes regular season 8-0.

WEDOWEE — Jabari Williams’ 1-yard touchdown run with 2.2 seconds to go put Wellborn ahead, and the Panthers beat Randolph County 30-25 on the road in a key Class 3A, Region 4 game.

Wellborn improved to 5-2 after an 0-2 start and 4-0 in region play with region games against Weaver at home next week and Saks on the road Oct. 27.

Randolph County (6-1) fell to 3-1 in region play. Dadeville, which lost to Wellborn on Sept. 22, is also 3-1 in region play. The Panthers have also beaten Childersburg (2-2).

“The region championship hasn’t been decided yet,” Wellborn coach Jeff Smith said. “We still have two games go to.

“We knew tonight was going to be a tough game. You don’t just come down there and play Randolph County on their home field and beat them. It takes everything you’ve got.”

Williams rushed 26 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 14-yard touchdown run. He has 1,162 yards and 12 touchdowns in seven games.

JACKSONVILLE 58, MUNFORD 14: Jim Ogle completed 17 of 21 passes for 335 yards and five touchdowns as Jacksonville reached 7-1 overall and finished 4-1 in region play.

Their only loss was to region rival Handley (7-1, 3-0). Handley has region games against Cleburne County and Munford over the next two weeks.

The Golden Eagles had scored 43 points or more in seven games this season and 51 or more in each of the last five games.

Ky’dric Fisher caught six passes for 129 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown catch. Damonte Sinclair caught five passes for 122 yards, with touchdown catches of 25 and 51 yards.

Zae English caught a 44-yard touchdown pass and rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown. Tanaka Wilson also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass.

PIEDMONT 58, GLENCOE 12: In Class 3A, Region 6 action, Piedmont (3-4) scored its second consecutive victory while improving to 3-2 in region play.

The Bulldogs stand in fourth place, behind Sylvania (5-0), Geraldine (4-1) and Hokes Bluff (4-1). Piedmont lost to Sylvania but has Geraldine and Hokes Bluff to play over the next two weeks.

Trevor Pike led the way Friday with 171 yards and three touchdowns on four rushes. Dontavious Jordan added 64 yards on eight rushes with two scores.

Glencoe opened with a 12-0 lead in Brady Kitchens’ touchdown passes of 30 yards to Jayden Patton and seven yards to Colby Bishop, but scored the final 58 points, starting with Hayes Gun’s 9-yard touchdown run. Gun also had an 11-yard touchdown run.

Pike’s touchdown runs covered 48, 23 and 70 yards, and Jordan’s scores went for one and 34 yards.

Piedmont’s Cole Wilson completed eight of 11 passes for 98 yards.

WHITE PLAINS 41, CLEBURNE COUNTY 10: The Wildcats scored 34 unanswered points after trailing 10-7 and made it two victories in a row for the first time since opening with a victory over Ranburne and a forfeit from Donoho in the COVID season of 2020.

The last time White Plains (2-5) won back-to-back games on the field was 2013, when the Wildcats finished the regular season by beating Susan Moore 50-26 and Collinsville 36-0.

The Wildcats’ victories over Talladega last week and Cleburne County this week mark the program’s first two under first-year head coach Blake Jennings.

Dylan Barksdale rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns He also had six tackles and a pass breakup.

P.J. Calloway added 55 rushing yards and a touchdown, and freshman Crew Martin hit on six of 10 passes for 70 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown pass to Rodney Perry.

Bryson Cheatwood returned an interception for a touchdown, and Ty Roberts had three tackles and an interception.

“The kids keep fight thing, keep doing the things we ask them do to,” Jennings said. “That’s all you can ask out of them, to fight and play hard and want to win.

“It’s fun seeing them have some success and get a little confidence about them.”

JAX CHRISTIAN 46, CORNERSTONE 7: The Thunder finished the regular season 8-0 and will play host to a playoff opponent to be determined in two weeks.

Noah Lee completed seven of 10 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, one to Jesse Gannaway and another to Caleb Stallings. Lee also rushed for a touchdown.

Travis Barnhill carried 14 time for 133 yards and three touchdowns and had 11 tackles.

Gannaway caught five passes for 89 yards, and Stallings’ lone catch went 73 yards for a score. Stallings’ also rushed for 33 yards and had nine tackles.

Bryson Dowdey had a 20-yard catch, Moses Averette had eight tackles, including four sacks and two tackles for loss. Nick Brodeur had six tackles, including two for loss, and Deon Dupree had a sack.
