Calhoun County, AL – In response to the unexpected closure of the Lee Brass plant in Calhoun County, the Calhoun County Economic Development Council (EDC), East AlabamaWorks, and the Anniston Career Center are teaming up to offer a dedicated job fair for former employees of the facility. The event, scheduled for August 20th, will be held at the Oxford Civic Center and aims to connect displaced workers with a range of employers actively seeking to fill positions that match their skills and expertise.
The Lee Brass plant, which recently closed its doors, left over 100 employees without jobs. On August 14, employees were notified that the plant would not be reopening and were instructed to collect their personal belongings from the facility. This abrupt closure came without prior warning, causing significant distress among the workforce.
In a Facebook post, the HR department of Lee Brass informed former employees about where to collect their last paychecks and provided contact details for further inquiries. The post also mentioned several companies that are hiring, including M&H Valve, Tyler Union, Talladega Foundry, and Kronospan. The Cheaha Career Center was also recommended as a resource for job seekers.
Don Hopper, Executive Director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council, expressed frustration over the lack of notice regarding the plant’s closure. “We were not given any advance warning about the facility’s closing,” Hopper said. “However, we are committed to helping the affected employees transition into new roles.”
The upcoming job fair will feature a variety of employers from different sectors, providing attendees with numerous opportunities to explore new career paths. Additionally, a Rapid Response team will be on-site in an adjacent room to offer information sessions and guidance to those navigating the transition.
“This job fair is a vital step in ensuring that the members of our community have access to opportunities that will support their shift into new roles,” said Hopper. “We encourage everyone to share this information within the Lee Brass community and take advantage of the resources available.”
The EDC, East AlabamaWorks, and the Anniston Career Center are urging all former Lee Brass employees to attend the job fair and participate in the information sessions provided by the Rapid Response team. This collaborative effort aims to offer support and practical solutions during this challenging time for the affected workers.
