Calhoun County, AL – On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at approximately 10:40 am, the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office received a call about a possible shooting at the 4000 block of Old Sulphur Springs Road in Wellington. Upon arrival deputies located a male deceased from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators were able to learn that the shooting victim, Thomas Farmer, 47, of Wellington, was at his residence when he heard a gunshot in the woods adjoining his residence. Farmer went out into the area where the shots came from and came into contact with the land owner (name not released due to investigation) of the adjacent property. Near the land owner was Farmers dog that had been shot by the land owner. Farmer and the land owner engaged in an argument that lead to the land owner firing one round into the chest of Farmer fatally wounding him.
Lt. Falon Hurst of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office advised that no arrests have been made at this time but the investigation is still ongoing and upon its completion it will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
