CHILDERSBURG – If you’re going to be in this game a while you’re got to accept the bad with the good..

Anniston opened its season Monday night and it wasn’t good. The Bulldogs, who have only two players with any appreciable varsity minutes and start just one senior, lost to Childersburg 62-28.

“It wasn’t good,” Anniston coach Torry Brown said. “”But there are two things that happened and it was a combination of both. A lot of times teams can make you play bad and we had periods tonight where they made us play bad and then there’s a difference if you can’t get a shot versus can’t make a shot. We got shots, we just couldn’t make a shot.

“We have some young guys who have never played varsity before and tonight was one of those nights we just couldn’t score a bucket. We’re not a big team so if we’re depending on shooting and you don’t hit shots you’re going to be in for a long night. But we’ll get better.”

GADSDEN – Jorda Crook surpassed 2,000 career points in the first quarter, finished with 35 points and led Ohatchee to a 60-22 victory over Coosa Christian Monday

Crook needed three points to reach the milestone and got it on a bucket early in a 15-point first quarter. She now has 2,032 points. She has scored 78 points in her last two games.

She would be the 74th player in Alabama history to score 2,000 points and first from Calhoun County, according to the listed AHSAA record.
