Calhoun County, AL – Smith pitches complete game, homers as Piedmont softball downs Sand Rock in eight innings; Jacksonville and Munford get wins
Savannah Smith homered, drove in two runs and pitched an eight-inning complete game, and Piedmont’s softball beat Sand Rock 5-2 on Monday.
Smith was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. In the circle, she spread out eight hits and struck out 12 batters while allowing two earned runs and one walk.
Smith’s solo home run in the sixth inning tied the game 2-2, and the Bulldogs (29-14) scored three runs in the top of the eighth. Sarah Goss led off the rally and triple and scored on Jenna Calvert’s sacrifice fly.
Cacey Brothers reached on a fielder’s choice, and Armoni Perry reached on an error. Both ultimately scored.
Smith pitched five of her strikeouts in Sand Rock’s final three at bats, allowing one hit and one intentional walk to load the bases.
Goss finished 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
JACKSONVILLE 5, WEAVER 4: Carli Fritts struck out 11 batters with four walks and spread out seven hits as Jacksonville (12-14) held off a Weaver rally.
The Bearcats (15-8) scored twice on Jadyn Smith’s two-run double in the sixth inning to close within 5-4, but Fritts induced a groundout to end the threat. She struck out two batters in the seventh.
Dailyn Wood had a triple, RBI and run for Jacksonville. Alexis Phillips and Libby Strain each had a single and RBI, and Keelie Leach had a double.
MUNFORD 12, CLEBURNE COUNTY 5: Eighth-grader Brooklyn Pressley hit a grand slam, one of Munford’s three home runs on the day, and Khloe Shears struck out seven batters en route to the win.
Blair Darby and Emma Gaither also homered. Kastin Lathem and Chloe Pickette had three hits each.
Munford (19-8) plays at Lincoln on Thursday.
BOAZ 16, OHATCHEE 6: Alyssa Davis’ grand slam in the third inning highlighted the day for Ohatchee (15-16). Savannah Reaves went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored a run, and Makenzie Luna went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
