Calhoun County Residents Awarded $2.8 Million Verdict for Injuries in 2022 18-Wheeler Collision

Jury grants $2.8 million to family for severe injuries in 2022 truck collision

Calhoun County, AL – Two Calhoun County residents have been awarded $2.8 million in a lawsuit following a 2022 accident involving an 18-wheeler that left both individuals with lasting injuries. The verdict comes after a trial in the Circuit Court of Calhoun County, presided over by Judge Bud Turner, where evidence and impacts from the crash were closely reviewed.

The crash occurred on October 13, 2022, on U.S. 431 near West Lenlock Lane in Anniston, AL, when an 18-wheeler rear-ended the vehicle in which the two individuals were traveling. One passenger suffered a significant back injury involving an annular tear, requiring months of physical therapy and injections. The other passenger sustained leg injuries, also resulting in ongoing medical treatment and impacts on daily life.

Prior to the trial, the trucking company offered the two plaintiffs a settlement of $400,000, which they declined, opting instead to take the case to court. The jury ultimately ruled in their favor, awarding a sum that reflects the physical, financial, and lifestyle changes resulting from the crash.
