Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Initiates Investigation with Assistance from CFAF and DFS

In a discovery on the evening of January 29th, a hunter stumbled upon human remains in the secluded Talladega National Forest. The remains, identified as a skull and jaw bone, were found near the 193-mile marker. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has taken charge of the investigation, collaborating with experts from the Center for Applied Forensics (CFAF) at Jacksonville State University.

As of now, the identity of the individual to whom the discovered remains belong remains a mystery. An excavation process is underway, with the extracted remains slated to undergo examination at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS). The forthcoming autopsy aims to not only identify the individual but also provide insights into the circumstances surrounding their demise.
