Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is actively engaged in investigations related to recent property crimes and is reaching out to the public for assistance. By fostering community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office aims to enhance public safety and bring those responsible for criminal activities to justice.
Incident 1:Sometime between January 2024 and February 18, 2024 a storage unit was broken into in the 6400 block of Hwy 278 West in Piedmont. Some personal documents were taken.
Incident 2:Sometime in December 2023, a gray U-Haul tow dolly was stolen from the Chevron at 30 AL Hwy 204 in Wellington. The suspect vehicle was a black truck – unknown make or model.

Catch of the week: Garret Evan Gariffo
On February 17th, deputies responded to a residence in the DeArmanvillecommunity of Anniston. The female resident reported that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home, assaulted her, brandished a handgun, and abducted her by forcing her into her own vehicle and leaving with her. The woman was able to escape from the car while on the roadway near her home and summon help. The man fled the scene in the vehicle prior to deputies’ arrival.
A weekend manhunt ensued with the assistance from deputies with Cleburne County, culminating with a vehicle pursuit where the man was apprehended after crashing a stolen Suzuki Samurai. The culprit, Garret Evan Gariffo, was incarcerated in the Cleburne County Jail for Receiving Stolen Property 1st, Attempting to Elude, and Reckless Endangerment.
Warrants have been issued in Calhoun County against Gariffofor the crimes of Kidnapping 1st, Domestic Violence 1st, and Theft of Property 1st. They will be served upon his release from Cleburne County Jail.
