Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Catch of the Week and Seeks Public Assistance in Recent Property Crime Investigations

Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is actively engaged in investigations related to recent property crimes and is reaching out to the public for assistance. By fostering community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office aims to enhance public safety and bring those responsible for criminal activities to justice.

Incident 1:Sometime between 1/11/24 and 3/5/24, a storage unit was broken into at Security Plus Storage on Hwy 21 in Oxford. Extension cords, hammers, ladders, ratchet straps, ground stakes for inflatable structures, a Ryobi leaf blower, and 2 Black Max gas generators were stolen.

Incident 2: Sometime between 3/1/24 and 3/26/24, a 16×18 ft car trailer was stolen from a residence on Hollingsworth Dr in Wellington. A floor jack, a cargo ratchet binder, a ladder, and some chains were also stolen.

Catch of the Week: – Montrel Burton

On 3/28/24, courthouse security deputies were notified by clerks on the fifth floor that Montrel Burton was present. Burton had an active writ of arrest through the circuit court. When the deputies attempted to place Burton into custody, he backed away and began disputing the fact a warrant existed. He refused commands to submit to custody and actively resisted the deputies’ efforts to subdue him. After a brief struggle, the deputies were able to overcome Burton’s resistance and apply handcuffs. No injuries were sustained. Burton was served with his warrant and also charged with Resisting Arrest.
