CalCoSo Arrests

Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office announced the results of a recent operation conducted by its Offender Management Bureau targeting registered offenders believed to be out of compliance with legal registration requirements within the county.

According to Sheriff Falon Hurst, detectives identified 21 target offenders connected to outstanding warrants during the focused enforcement effort. The operation resulted in seven arrests overall, including five arrests tied directly to confirmed violations of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Two additional individuals were arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants.

Investigators also confirmed that eight of the targeted offenders were already incarcerated in other jurisdictions. Three additional offenders were removed from active status following records verification and investigative review.

In addition to the arrests, detectives conducted multiple compliance checks throughout the operation and developed additional investigative leads. Some of those leads involve information outside of Calhoun County and will be forwarded to detectives assigned to the United States Marshals Service Task Force for follow-up.

Sheriff Hurst stated that operations of this nature serve several purposes beyond arrests, including maintaining accurate offender records, locating absconded offenders, verifying compliance with registration laws, and developing intelligence for future enforcement efforts.

The sheriff’s office said it remains committed to enforcing registration requirements and pursuing offenders who fail to comply with the law.

Officials also noted that registration requirements can vary depending on factors such as the offender’s original charges, the age and relationship of the victim, and other legal considerations.

Information regarding registered sex offenders in Calhoun County is available through the sheriff’s office website.
