Property Crime: An early‑morning call sent deputies to Highway 9, where a Dollar General store manager said she tried to confront a shoplifter who grabbed a case of beer and walked straight out the door. The manager followed him outside, made eye contact, and moved toward the rear of the truck to snap a picture of the plate — when the suspect suddenly threw the truck in reverse, coming within just a few feet of hitting her. The confrontation continued as she demanded the stolen beer back. The suspect hands it over, jumps in the truck, and takes off southbound on Highway 9. Store cameras show a white male in a blue shirt and blue jeans entering the cooler section, grabbing a case of beer, and leaving without ever approaching checkout. The getaway truck is described as a dark gray, lifted pickup with large tires, similar to a Ford F‑250 style build. Deputies are working to identify the suspect involved in both the attempted assault and the theft. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
