Crime of the Week

Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating recent property crimes and is calling on the public for help. By encouraging community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to improve public safety and hold those accountable for these criminal activities.

Property Crime: Sometime on July 5 deputies responded to the Hobson City One Stop for a possible theft report. The store’s clerk reported that a black male wearing a green shirt tried to purchase a little over $40 worth of items from the store using a fake $100 bill. The clerk told deputies that she noticed that on the bill was printed the words “motion picture purposes.”  When she informed the man that she couldn’t take the fake money, the suspect fled the scene with the items.

Catch of the Week: At approximately 12:15 p.m. on July 2nd, deputies responded to a disturbance at a business in Alexandria. According to witnesses on the scene, a black male entered the store and attempted to purchase cigarettes without providing identification. The suspect — described as wearing a red “Cobb” T-shirt, a black durag, light blue pants, and slide-on shoes — became irate when employees refused the sale. He threatened to retrieve a firearm and return to the store to shoot the employees. Prior to the arrival of deputies, the suspect fled the area in a newer model black Dodge Durango, which reportedly had a possible Georgia tag.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes the importance of community involvement in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
