Weaver’s boys’ soccer team made school history Tuesday.

The Bearcats beat visiting J.B. Pennington 3–2, advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. They will play at Susan Moore on Thursday at 6 p.m.

“It is a great accomplishment for the program,” Weaver coach Chris Strott said. “Trying to build the program to be competitive is all you want as a coach. It is great for the community and students when we are able to play in the playoffs.

“The amount of work the guys have put into this season is finally paying off. I’m proud of the improvements they have made and the dedication they have to getting better. We always say, ‘Have a purpose.’  With that phrase, it can mean a lot, but I think the purpose of this season is much bigger than the game itself. It is to prove our team’s purpose and the want to win and be successful. You can see it this season, and it is special. It will be one for our community to remember, seniors especially.”

Weaver got two goals from Caleb Hotaling and one from Carrsyn Holland. Goalie Joe Vines recorded 20 saves.

WHITE PLAINS BOYS 5, HOKES BLUFF 3: Jose Ramirez and Anthony Osorto scored two goals apiece, and White Plains advanced to the second round. The Wildcats will go on the road to play Oneonta at date and time to be determined.

White Plains’ girls fell to Hokes Bluff 2-1. Nathaly Rosas scored the Wildcats’ goal.
