Calhoun County, AL – Alexandria, White Plains bring power, dramatics in two showdowns at Glencoe. Ohatchee ups to 8-1 with three shutouts.
Alexandria and White Plains played in Glencoe’s tournament Saturday, and their over-the-county-line battles gave an intriguing early-season look at two Calhoun County powers.
Alexandria won the first meeting 20-5. White Plains won their second clash of the night 6-5 in a game that went to the international tiebreaker.
Allyssa Hunt and Brenlee Sparks drove in five runs apiece as Alexandria (4-1) rolled in Saturday’s first game against White Plains. The Valley Cubs scored nine runs in the fourth inning and six in the second.
Sparks went 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs. Hunt went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs.
Several other Valley Cubs had big days at the plate, led by Pressley Slaton, who went 4-for-4 with a triple, double, three runs and three RBIs.
Charlee Parris went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Clancy Bright hit a double with two RBIs and a run.
Khloe England went 1-for-1 with a double and two runs. She also got the win, allowing four hits and five earned runs with a strikeout and walk in two innings.
White Plains scored all five of its runs in the third inning. Callie Richardson and Cassidy Arnold had a single and two RBIs apiece, and Sara Kate Adams drove in a run.
In the second game, Arnold and Karli Otwell homered as White Plains scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Sparks’ two-run triple tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Richardson’s sacrifice fly plated a run in the seventh, and Arnold hit an RBI double.
Arnold finished with three RBIs and Otwell two. Adams went 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run.
Leighton Arnold pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and four earned runs with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Parris had a triple and RBI. Bright and Christian Hess each had a double and a run.
ALEXANDRIA 16, SOUTHSIDE 4: Also at Glencoe, seventh-grader Reece Carr gets the win in the circle, allowing five hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts over four innings.
Continuing their big days, Hunt and Slaton homered. Hunt’s hit a grand slam, and Slaton went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Christian Hess and Sparks each drove in two runs. Christian Hess doubled and scored two runs, and Sparks went 3-for-3 with two runs.
Alexandria also got a triple from Cali Hess and doubles from Kaden Pritchett and Briley Bright.
WHITE PLAINS 11, ETOWAH 1: White Plains (4-1) got two RBIs apiece from Addi Bradley, Cassidy Arnold and Adams and an RBI apiece from Richardson, Leighton Arnold and Karli Otwell.
Adams went 3-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs, and Cassidy Arnold was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs.
Leighton Arnold went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Richardson had a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Bradley had a triple and two RBIs.
Leighton Arnold pitched a one-hitter over four innings with seven strikeouts.
WHITE PLAINS 9, GLENCOE 1: White Plains blew the game open with five runs in the third inning and four in the fourth.
Richardson, Leighton Arnold and Halie Smith all homered. Richardson also tripled while going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. Leighton Arnold was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, and Smith had three RBIs.
Bradley hit a double and scored twice, and Adams hit a double.
Kannon Slaughter got the win, allowing four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts in three innings.
OHATCHEE WINS THREE: Ohatchee improved to 8-1 Saturday beating Ragland 6-0, Wellborn 9-0 and Gaylesville 14-0.
Ohatchee pitchers gave up a total of four hits over 10 combined innings. Alanah Fitch pitched a three-inning no-hitter against Wellborn, and Jordyn Faulkner allowed one hit in four innings against Ragland.
Tabi Davidson led at the plate against Wellborn, going 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. Reese Steward had a single, run and two RBIs, and MacKenzie Luna hit a double with a run and RBI. Fitch also had an RBI.
Against Gaylesville, Luna and Savannah Reaves had three RBIs apiece. Reaves went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs, and Luna went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.
Steward had a single and two RBIs, and Breanna Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Ellie Carden went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI against Ragland. Martin doubled with an RBI, and Davidson had a single with an RBI.
