FORT PAYNE — Cayla Brothers homered twice and drove in three runs as Piedmont downed Fort Payne 10-3 in Thursday’s prep softball action.
She was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs on the day as Piedmont improved to 8-2.
Cacey Brothers was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Carson Young was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Ava Pope and Kaelyn Green each had a single and two RBIs.
Young pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and two earned runs with no walks in seven innings.
WEAVER 9, WELLBORN 0: Kynlee Fulmer continued her surge in the circle, pitching a one-hitter with 18 strikeouts in seven innings as Weaver (4-4) won its third game in a row and fourth in five games.
Weaver has given up a combined six runs in its past five games, recording three shutouts. Fulmer pitched in all four wins with 54 combined strikeouts.
She also went 2-for-4 with an RBI against Wellborn.
Sydney Bitzer led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs.
Mckennah Homesley went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs, and Alana Cooper had a double and two RBIs.
Anna Shrivinski went 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs.
OHATCHEE 15, SAKS 4: Alanah Fitch went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs as the Indians improved to 15-3.
She also got the win, pitching all five innings. She allowed nine hits and four earned runs and struck out four batters.
Ohatchee’s Breanna Martin went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, three runs and two RBIs.
Lexi Thomas went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Ohatchee got an RBI apiece from Ellie Carden, Savannah Reaves, Mackenzie Luna, Makayla Brackett and Tabi Davidson, who hit a double. Carden was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Saks’ Miani Burton went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Olivia Wills had a double and RBI, and Adrianna Jones had a single and RBI.
WHITE PLAINS 15, ANNISTON 0: Callie Richardson went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs and five RBIs, and Leighton Arnold and Carli Fritts combined to throw a one-hitter as White Plains improved to 13-6.
Braeton Moran went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Arnold went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs.
Sara Kate Adams had a single, an RBI and three runs, and Halie Smith went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
MUNFORD 11, TALLADEGA 1: Brooklyn Pressley and Emma Gaither combined to allow three hits in five innings as Munford improved to 13-1-1. Gaither had five strikeouts in three innings, and Pressley struck out three batters in two innings.
Both players had big days at the plate, as well. Pressley went 3-for-3 with three doubles, three runs and two RBIs, and Gaither went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
Raleigh Dew doubled while going 2-for-2 with a run and three RBIs.
Baseball
PLEASANT VALLEY SWEEPS: The Raiders (10-6) had a big day at the plate, beating Sand Rock 19-4 and 17-5 to complete an area sweep.
Pleasant Valley pounded out 14 hits in the opener. L Williams went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, and Samuel Duncan had a double, a run and three RBIs.
Holt Bentley went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, and John Garrett Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Noah Johnson hit a double, scored two runs and had two RBIs, and Peyton Mann went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI.
Caleb Shew tripled, scored a run and had an RBI.
Duncan allowed four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts in five innings.
In the nightcap, W Wheeler hit two doubles while going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Duncan doubled with three RBIs. Will Underwood went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
The Raiders also got a double and RBI apiece from Williams and Bryant. Bentley and Mann each had a single and RBI.
Shew went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, and Johnson went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Wheeler allowed three hits and one earned run with five strikeouts in five innings.
PIEDMONT SPLITS: The Bulldogs (11-5) beat Fort Payne 5-2 then lost the nightcap 12-1.
In the opener, Cole Austin allowed five hits, two earned runs and no walks with three strikeouts in six innings. He also went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.
McClane Mohon went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save.
Cole Wilson had a single, a run and an RBI, and Jonah Pike drove in a run.
In the nightcap, Fort Payne’s Preston Ledford pitched a two-hitter. Mohon and Homesley each had a single.
WHITE PLAINS 21, ANNISTON 0: White Plains’ Aiden Kilgore, Ashton Wallace and Braxton Curles combined to pitch a no-hitter. Curles had three of their six strikeouts.
Cooper Tinney went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double two runs and four RBIs, and Paul Laube went 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs.
Wallace went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Dalton Luker was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Braxxon Borrelli was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Coleman Ray went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
RANBURNE 6, WELLBORN 3: Nate Merrill singled, drove in two runs and scored a run as Ranburne edged Wellborn.
Colton Johnson went 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI, and Carter Loren went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Drew Davenport pitched five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and one walk with four strikeouts. Colton Johnson struck out five batters while pitching two innings of relief.
Wellborn’s Brennan Talley hit a solo home run while going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Tanner Ingram went 2-for-2 with a run, and Dozer Hayes drove in a run.
Top-ranked Donoho girls down Saks in soccer, improved to 8-0-1. In baseball, Munford answers Cleburne County’s sixth-inning rally with one of its own to win, 4-3.
SAKS — Anna Kate Wallace and Zoe Christopher scored two goals apiece, and Class 1A-3A top-ranked Donoho’s girls beat Saks 6-1 in Wednesday’s prep soccer action.
The Falcons improved to 8-0-1, and their victory came on the same day they learned they will carry the No. 1 seed in the Calhoun County tournament, which starts April 1.
Wallace also had two assists, and Christoper had one.
Donoho also got a goal apiece from Erin Turley and Lauren Wigley, and Sam Wakefield had two assists.
Layla Garcia scored Saks’ goal in the first half before exiting the match with an ankle injury.
Saks is 4-3 and the county’s No. 2 seed.
Baseball
MUNFORD 4, CLEBURNE COUNTY 3: Braydon Nichols’ RBI single capped Munford’s three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning and provided the go-ahead run.
Alex Petty led off the inning with a solo home run, and Watts’ sacrifice fly plated the tying run.
Cleburne County took a 3-1 lead on Gabriel Wickersham’s two-run single in the top of the sixth.
Austin Wynn got the win, pitching a complete game. He struck out 11 batters while allowing four hits and one earned run.
David Pettus had a single and an RBI for the Lions.
Cleburne County’s Jayson Deese had a single and RBI, and Asher Brown doubled and scored a run. Deese also pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.
