Jacksonville, AL –  On Thursday, April 11th, the Calhoun County Technical Academy marked a significant partnership between Calhoun County Schools, the Modern Manufacturing Program (MMP) with East Alabama Works!, and Honda. The collaboration culminated in Honda’s generous donation of a 2019 Honda Pilot and an engine to provide invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for students.

Billy Whaley, representing Honda, articulated the company’s commitment to community engagement. “So we’re here today to donate the 2019 Honda Pilot and engine. We know how important it is to be a part of the community. It’s really an honor for us to be up here today and to be able to donate these things, hopefully to provide opportunity, skills, and development that will help build tomorrow’s workforce.”

Principal Melanie Brooks expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its potential to address workforce needs. “We are excited about the partnership with MMP and East Alabama Works! and then twofold Honda, who has now been able to offer these opportunities for students who can now fill those workforce needs that they are going to have.”

The event also highlighted the role of Dr. Reyes and the Calhoun County board members in facilitating the growth and expansion of educational opportunities. Dr. Reyes, superintendent of Calhoun County Schools, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between industry and education. “This is a great example where you have industry with needs that are willing to make commitments to the community by providing the tools so young people can go to work.”

Abby Howle, project manager for the Modern Manufacturing Program, emphasized the importance of equipping students with tangible skills for the job market. “Manufacturing is the largest sector in the job market, so equipping students with the tools to leave school with tangible skills and to be able to be employed is vitally important.”

The partnership between Calhoun County Schools, MMP, East Alabama Works!, and Honda represents a pioneering initiative bridging the gap between education and industry. By providing students with real-world experiences and practical skills, the program aims to empower the next generation of workforce leaders.

This event symbolized, not just a donation of a vehicle and equipment, but also a commitment to nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and building a brighter future for the community. The collaboration serves as a testament to the power of partnerships in driving positive change and shaping the workforce of tomorrow.
