Anniston, AL – The NAACP, Alabama New South Coalition, and Alabama Democratic Conference extend a warm invitation to the community of Calhoun County for an evening of collaboration, engagement, and enlightenment at the Quarterly Calhoun County Town Hall on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Held at the Anniston City Meeting Center, located at 1615 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201, this insightful event is set to take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, providing a platform for community members to participate in crucial discussions on a range of important issues. The aim of the evening is to foster open conversations with residents on topics such as school funding priorities, student curriculum, resource allocation, planned legislation, and infrastructure, among others.

The distinguished panelists for the Calhoun County Town Hall include Anniston Ward 4 Councilwoman Millie Harris, Anniston Councilman Ward 1 Jay Jenkins, Superintendent of Anniston City Schools Dr. D. Ray Hill, and Board President of the Anniston City Schools Mr. Robert Houston. These community leaders bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, providing valuable insights into the matters that directly impact the residents of Calhoun County. *please see update below on the panelists. 

President of the Calhoun Chapter of the Alabama New South Coalition, Sylvia Fitts, emphasizes the importance of dispelling myths by providing fact-based answers substantiated with evidence. This commitment to transparency and accuracy underscores the mission of the town hall to inform and engage the community in a meaningful way.

“The goal of the evening is to have discussions with the community residents on important issues such as school funding priority, student curriculum, resource allocation, planned legislation, infrastructure, to name a few. In addition, we want to dispel any myths by providing fact-based answers that can be substantiated with evidence,” says Sylvia Fitts.

This community-centric event is free and open to the public, encouraging all residents of Calhoun County to participate actively in the democratic process. The Calhoun County Town Hall presents an excellent opportunity for individuals to voice their concerns, ask questions, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue that shapes the future of their community.

 

 

Update: As of 1/26/2024 Due to scheduling conflicts, there has been a change in panelists for the above event. The new panelists will be: Dr Ray Hill, Superintendent of Anniston City School System, and Mr. Robert Houston,School Board President, Anniston City Schools and Mrs, Mary Harrington, School Board, Anniston City Schools.
