Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Veterans Treatment Court will be holding an Awards Day in recognition of the Court Staff, Volunteer Veteran Mentors and Court Partners that support the Veteran Community.
DATE: July 5, 2022
TIME: 8:30AM
LOCATION: Calhoun County Courthouse, Courtroom #310, 25 W. 11th St. in Anniston, AL.
The mission of a Veteran Treatment Court is to divert a justice-involved Veteran that will be required to meet strict requirements from a traditional criminal justice system that will provide them with tools to lead a productive and law-abiding life.
Veterans are offered the opportunity to participate in the court on a voluntary basis. Those that choose to go into the program must attend regular court status conferences, participate in the development of their treatment plans, and engage in community groups as required. By doing so that individual will then have his or her charges deferred pending successful completion of the treatment plan, at which time the charges will be dismissed.
Research has shown that Judges in Veteran Treatment Courts are motivators who provide ongoing encouragement to the justice-involved Veteran as they undertake the difficult work of recovery. These Courts also link Veterans with services, benefits and program providers, including the VA, Veterans Service Organizations and Volunteer Veteran Mentors.
