Calhoun County Voters to Head to the Polls for Alabama Primary Election on May 19

Sample Ballot

Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, May 19, for Alabama’s 2026 Primary Election. Polls across the county will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Voters who are unsure where they vote can verify their polling location, view sample ballots, and find additional election information through the Alabama Secretary of State’s election website.

One of the most common misconceptions during Alabama primary elections is that voters must already be registered as either a Democrat or Republican to participate in a party primary. Alabama does not require voters to register by political party.

Instead, voters may choose either the Republican Primary ballot or the Democratic Primary ballot when they arrive to vote. However, voters may only vote in one party’s primary during the election.

Choosing a Republican or Democratic ballot in the primary does not determine how someone can vote in the November General Election, nor does it permanently register a voter with either political party.

Sample ballots for every Alabama county are available through the Secretary of State’s website. Calhoun County’s sample Republican and Democratic ballots include statewide races, local races, party executive committee races, and statewide constitutional amendments.

Statewide Constitutional Amendments on Both Ballots

Statewide Amendment 1

Proposes allowing judges to deny bail for additional offenses, including shooting into an occupied dwelling or occupied space and solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder.

Statewide Amendment 2

Proposes preventing the compensation of a district attorney from being reduced during his or her term in office.
