Calhoun County Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Calhoun County, AL – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Friday, May 24, has claimed the life of an 83-year-old Wellington woman, Mary C. Rich. Rich was critically injured when the 2017 Toyota Camry she was a passenger in collided with a 1998 GMC Sonoma driven by William R. Haynes, 63, of Jacksonville.

Following the initial impact, the Toyota left the roadway and struck a ditch. Mary C. Rich was transported to Anniston RMC Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Toyota, Jerry M. Rich, 85, also of Wellington, was injured and transported to the same hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on U.S. 431 near Gladden Lane, approximately one mile north of the Alexandria. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Further details are not available at this time.
