Calhoun County, AL – Two Calhoun County young farmers, Wesley Gaddy and Adam Wilson, advanced to the Sweet 16 in the Alabama Farmers Federation Young Farmers Discussion Meet during the organization’s Farm & Land Conference held August 16 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Discussion Meet is designed to simulate a committee meeting, encouraging participants to exchange ideas and propose solutions to current agricultural issues. Both Gaddy and Wilson were recognized for their performance and are pictured with Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell.
The Farm & Land Conference also highlighted several statewide honors. Drew and Lauren Wendland of Autauga County were named Outstanding Young Farm Family (OYFF), while Josh and Bailey Williams of Tallapoosa County claimed the Excellence in Agriculture award. In addition, the Final Four of the Discussion Meet were announced, with competitors from Clay, Henry, Lawrence, and St. Clair counties moving forward.
As OYFF winners, the Wendlands received over $80,000 in prizes, including a Ford truck package, farm equipment, and a one-year tractor lease. The Williamses were awarded a zero-turn mower for their Excellence in Agriculture recognition.
The Alabama Farmers Federation, with more than 365,000 member families across all 67 counties, is part of the American Farm Bureau Federation and serves as the state’s largest farm organization. Winners from Alabama competitions will advance to represent the state at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s national events in California this January.
