Madyson Cromer’s softball travels have taken her from one United States coast to another, so why not the East Coast for college ball?

The Pleasant Valley senior slugger signed Nov. 9 to play for UNC-Wilmington and celebrated her signing in a ceremony Thursday in the Pleasant Valley High School library

She’s the third Pleasant Valley athlete to have such a ceremony in two weeks, joining softball teammate Gracee Ward (Gadsden State) and volleyball player Allie Bryant (Gadsden State).

Cromer has 158 career hits and 132 RBIs in 145 career games, with 49 doubles, two triples and 14 home runs.

“Even though it’s 10 hours away, it felt like it was in my backyard,” she said. “I just felt like that’s where I need to be.”Even as a junior, Madyson is littered all throughout our career stats sheet in different categories.

“She’s a special player, but she works so hard at what she does, and she loves what she does.”
Her inroad to college ball came through travel-ball travels.

“I was playing in a tournament in Georgia, and their pitching coach saw me,” Cromer said. “They DM’d me on Instagram, and I didn’t even know that Instagram had DM. …

“We walked all through (last) December. In January, they had a camp, so I went up there for a camp, and they were impressed, so I went up there for a tour and stuff afterwards.”

Cromer’s offer came in February, and a player who has played travel ball from California, to Florida, to Kansas City, to South Carolina, and to Georgia felt at home.

“Even though it’s 10 hours away, it felt like it was in my backyard,” she said. “I just felt like that’s where I need to be.”
