Jacksonville, AL – Per the JSU Media department Terry Casey, vice president for student affairs, was presented the Outstanding First Year Student Advocate Award by the National Resource Center for First Year Experience and Students in Transition as part of its 42nd annual First Year Experience Conference in Los Angeles on Feb. 3-6. A former first generation student, he has dedicated his career to making students feel at home at JSU. He served as director of student life and dean of students before becoming vice president.
Terry W. Casey is a graduate of Jacksonville State University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in finance and his Master of Science in Education with a concentration in counseling and student personnel administration. He also attended the University of Alabama. In 2017 he was honored as JSU Faculty/Staff member of the year as Dean of Students.
Terry has worked at JSU for over 24 years. He has been actively involved with the Student Government Association, Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Gamecock Orientation program, facility management, and first- and second-year experience. Terry, along with some of his faculty colleagues, implemented JSU’s First Year Experience Course in 2010. He began his career at JSU as an Admissions Counselor.
The Vice President of Student Affairs works with the Dean of Students Office, Community Standards and Student Ethics, Title IX, Residence Life, Counseling Services, and Testing. He is a member of NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education), AACRAO (American Association of College Registrars and Admission Officers), AFA (Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, and NODA (Association of Orientation, Transition and Retention in Higher Education).
