Jacksonville, AL – In a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and resilience, Jacksonville State University is set to host a series of engaging events throughout February in honor of Black History Month. These events, carefully curated by various university organizations, promise an enlightening and enriching experience for the entire campus community.
Kicking off the month, Housing and Residence Life invites all members of the JSU community to the TMB Auditorium for a Black History Month Program on February 1st. From 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, attendees will embark on a journey through history and music, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of African American heritage. This program serves as a tribute to the pivotal contributions of Black individuals throughout history, emphasizing the importance of understanding and appreciating diverse cultural narratives.
On February 11th, the Leone Cole Auditorium will be alive with soul-stirring melodies and powerful messages during the “Take Me to Church” event. Co-hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), this event promises to be a spiritual and uplifting experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to bask in the soulful sounds that have played a significant role in shaping African American culture, fostering unity, and inspiring resilience.
Continuing the momentum, the Leone Cole Auditorium will host the “Be Color Brave, Not Color Blind” event on February 15th, presented by SGA and the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) community. From 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, attendees will engage in discussions and activities aimed at fostering a more inclusive and understanding campus environment. The event encourages participants to embrace diversity, recognize the value of differences, and work towards building a stronger, more united community.
