MONTGOMERY — Ackles leads the way as Anniston’s boys build lead, fight off Trinity comeback to advance to regional final. Anniston’s girls fall to Catholic.

 

Anniston’s boys fought off Trinity Presbyterian’s comeback attempt at the foul line and survived their Class 4A Central Regional semifinal Wednesday, 48-43.

Application

The Bulldogs (22-4) advanced to the regional final against the Booker T. Washington-Fairfield winner on Feb. 18 at 5:45 p.m. at Alabama State University.

Caleb Ackles led Anniston with 14 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. Kyree Lewis added nine points and six rebounds, and Tariq Judkins had eight points, four boards and three steals.

The Bulldogs overcame a 19-point, nine-rebound performance by John Morris.

Anniston lead 28-15 early in the third quarter, but Trinity (18-9) rallied and tied the game 43-43. Anniston scored the game’s final five points at the foul line.

Girls

CATHOLIC-MONTGOMERY 61, ANNISTON 37: Anniston’s Liberty Lewis scored 15 points, hitting two of three 3-point shots, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Catholic-Montgomery (18-7).

Hannah Smith led the way with 23 points, hitting all nine of her shots, and the Knight’s advanced to the regional final while eliminating Anniston (19-6).

Catholic hit 75 percent of its shots (25 of 33) from the field, outrebounded Anniston 24-13 and led 23-7 after one quarter.
