Gadsden, AL – The Cardinal Foundation at Gadsden State Community College has announced the appointment of Centre Mayor-Elect Jay Howell as the newest member of its Board of Directors, representing Cherokee County.
A lifelong resident of Centre, Howell has built a distinguished career rooted in service and leadership. After graduating from Cherokee County High School in 1981, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University in 1986 and completed the Alabama State Trooper Academy that same year. Howell went on to serve as an Alabama State Trooper for 25 years, retiring in 2011 after a career dedicated to protecting the citizens of Alabama.
Following his retirement, Howell and his wife, Tonya, founded Weiss Lake Concierge Property Management and Vacation Rentals, a business serving homeowners and visitors throughout Cherokee County. In addition to his professional work, Howell has remained active in local civic life, serving on the boards of Atrium Floyd Cherokee Hospital, Cherokee County E911, and the Weiss Lake Improvement Association. He is also a member of the Centre Lions Club and the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
“We are honored to welcome Mayor-Elect Jay Howell to the Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors,” said Hillary Folsom, director of Advancement and Alumni Relations at Gadsden State. “His dedication to Cherokee County and his deep understanding of community needs make him an invaluable addition to our team.”
Howell and his wife are members of Tate’s Chapel Baptist Church, where they remain involved in both ministry and community outreach.
