Jacksonville, AL – The internationally recognized Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo is set to roll through Jacksonville on May 17 and 18, bringing elite cyclists and enthusiasts from across the country to compete in a prestigious event held at Jacksonville State University.
Sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), this two-day cycling competition is the only U.S. qualifier for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The Cheaha Challenge features two demanding and dynamic courses: a 12-mile flat and fast time trial on Friday, May 17, followed by the 100-mile gran fondo on Saturday, May 18, which takes riders across steep terrain and over the highest point in Alabama—Cheaha Mountain.
Races will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day, with Jacksonville State University serving as the central venue for the event. Cyclists will begin and end their rides on campus, offering a chance for spectators and supporters to witness both the start-line adrenaline and the triumph of finishers crossing the final stretch.
