Children’s of Alabama Announces $3 Million Donation to Expand Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

QUARTERBACKING CHILDREN’S HEALTH FOUNDATION TO DONATE $3 MILLION TO CHILDREN’S OF ALABAMA FOR PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Birmingham, AL – Children’s of Alabama is excited to announce that the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation has committed $3 million to help relocate and expand the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

The expansion project involves constructing a 50-bed unit on the 12th floor of the Benjamin Russell Hospital building, which is currently an unfinished space. This new unit will be designed to accommodate both critical care patients and those with lower acuity needs. In honor of the foundation’s generous donation, the unit will be named the Quarterbacking Children’s Health Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This project will also enable the hospital to update its intensive care rooms and integrate the latest technology to enhance patient care. Construction is slated to begin this year and is expected to be completed by 2026.
