Anniston, AL – In a significant move to combat homelessness, the City of Anniston proudly announces its commitment of $1,200,000 to the Martha’s Hope Project. This transformative initiative, spearheaded by the United Way of East Central Alabama, aims to address one of society’s most pressing issues with a comprehensive approach.
Named in honor of Martha Vandervoort, a dedicated civic servant, the Martha’s Hope Project includes the establishment of the “Holloway House,” a Transitional Living Facility paying tribute to Ms. Maudine Holloway, Executive Director of the Community Enabler Developer Inc. This facility will provide 24/7 emergency shelter services, complemented by essential social work and empowerment coaching. Additionally, the center will collaborate with local nonprofits to offer medical prescriptions, healthcare services, and career readiness training programs.
The City of Anniston expresses gratitude to local businesses and organizations, including the Alabama Power Foundation, Webb Concrete and Building Materials, Sunny King Automotive Group, SAMCO, ERA King Real Estate, and various community stakeholders. Their generous donations, along with the city’s commitment, have contributed to a collective fundraising total of $1,435,000. The project is now $265,000 away from reaching its fundraising goal.
Anniston Mayor Jack Draper emphasizes the importance of community support, stating, “It’s incredible to witness the progress of this project towards reality. We are grateful for our community’s support and their impact through this crucial initiative. Now is the time for others to join in. Your support can be the catalyst for change, enabling us to continue the vital work initiated by civic servants like Martha Vandervoort and Maudine Holloway.”
