City of Anniston Introduces Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) Program as Part of Annual Summer Day Camps

City Summer Camps

Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston is eagerly anticipating the return of its annual Summer Day Camp Program, set to take place from May 28th to August 2nd, 2024. Operating on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, the program promises an array of engaging activities for children throughout the summer. What sets this year apart is the introduction of the Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) program, marking a significant enhancement to the educational component of the Summer Day Camps. Developed through collaborative efforts across East Alabama, SAIL is specifically tailored for students entering 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in August 2024.

SAIL aims to provide additional support for students who may not meet grade level standards, offering enrichment sessions alongside the traditional camp activities. This integrated approach ensures that children not only have fun but also continue to learn and grow academically during the summer months. It’s an exciting opportunity for young learners to explore new subjects and reinforce essential skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Participation in the SAIL program requires enrollment in the Summer Day Camps, with attendance being mandatory for all SAIL participants. However, children have the option to attend the Summer Day Camps without joining the SAIL program. Upon registration for SAIL, students undergo a pre-test as part of the assessment process before final acceptance into the program. Importantly, there are no additional fees for the SAIL program beyond the standard Summer Day Camp fees, making it accessible to all interested families.

The academic sessions of the SAIL program will be hosted at The Donoho School, featuring innovative reading and math sessions rooted in the BellXcel curriculum. Led by certified local educators, these sessions aim to provide targeted support and personalized instruction to help students excel academically. Transportation will be provided from the Summer Camp locations to The Donoho School, ensuring ease of access for participants. Additionally, Fridays will offer unique outdoor enrichment adventures at Camp Lee for SAIL students, further enhancing their learning experience with hands-on activities and exploration.

Given the limited availability in its inaugural year, the SAIL program will be open to the first 50 registrants. Registration for both the Summer Day Camps and the SAIL program is now open, with online registration links available on the City of Anniston website. For further inquiries or information, individuals are encouraged to contact the City of Anniston Parks & Recreation Department. Through the introduction of the SAIL program, the City of Anniston aims to provide a comprehensive summer experience that combines fun and learning, ensuring that children in the community have access to valuable educational opportunities and support during the summer months.
