City of Anniston Urges Precaution as Freezing Temperatures Loom: Warming Station to Open

Public Warming Station

Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston is urging residents to prepare for freezing temperatures anticipated to hit the area next week. In response to the forecasted cold weather conditions, a public warming station is set to open its doors at The Bridge at Anniston First United Methodist Church (1400 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201) starting Monday, November 27, 2023. The station will operate nightly from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM until Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Residents are advised to take note of a special schedule adjustment on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, when the shelter will open at 6:00 PM.

For those seeking more information about the warming station, the City of Anniston recommends contacting the local United Way via their 24/7 helpline at 2-1-1.

Volunteer groups and organizations are crucial to the success of the warming station, especially in meal preparations for breakfasts and dinners. Interested individuals can sign up to assist by visiting the ‘The Bridge Warming Station’ Facebook Group https://tinyurl.com/yckucndv or reaching out to Kyle Bryan at [email protected], representing the United Way of East Central Alabama. Bryan can also provide information about additional needs and opportunities at the station.

The Warming Station opens its doors when temperatures are projected to be 36 degrees or below. The station also takes into account various inclement weather conditions, such as rain, to ensure the safety and comfort of those relying on its services. This vital initiative is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the City of Anniston’s Community Task Force on Homelessness. Led by the United Way of East Central Alabama, the task force works in conjunction with Anniston First United Methodist Church, Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County, MeMe’s Heart, and His Hands and Feet Ministries.

Residents can learn more about the warming station and its services by visiting www.annistonal.gov/warming-station. As the community bands together to address the challenges posed by the upcoming freezing temperatures, the City of Anniston expresses gratitude to all volunteers and organizations for their invaluable support.
