Anniston, AL – As freezing temperatures loom on the horizon, the City of Anniston is calling on its citizens to stay safe and be prepared for the cold weather set to arrive later this week. In response to the anticipated weather conditions, a public warming station will be made available at The Bridge, located within Anniston First United Methodist Church at 1400 Noble Street, Anniston, AL 36201. The warming station will operate from 5:00 PM in the evenings to 8:00 AM the following mornings, starting from Tuesday, October 31, 2023, through Friday, November 3, 2023. It’s important to note that the shelter’s opening time will be adjusted to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
For further details about the warming station, individuals are encouraged to contact the local United Way through their 24/7 helpline by dialing 2-1-1.
The City of Anniston is also seeking support from the community to assist in various ways. If you wish to donate items, provide meals, or help with meal preparations for the warming station, or if you’re interested in future employment and volunteer opportunities at the station, please reach out to Kyle Bryan at [email protected], representing the United Way of East Central Alabama.
The warming station will be activated when temperatures are expected to dip to 36 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Furthermore, the facility will take into account various inclement weather conditions, including rain, to ensure the safety and comfort of those who rely on it.
This initiative is made possible through the collaboration of the City of Anniston’s Community Task Force on Homelessness, led by the United Way of East Central Alabama, and involving partnerships with Anniston First United Methodist Church, Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County, MeMe’s Heart, and His Hands and Feet Ministries.
