PV Twilight Invite
JACKSONVILLE – Pleasant Valley’s Cayden Nelson won the boys race and both Raiders teams finished third in their respective races in the PV Twilight Invite.
Nelson made it around his home course in 17:02 and beat Southside’s Luke Holcomb to the wire by 17 seconds. Ashville’s Taylor Knight (20:54) led Jacksonville’s Sarah Sloughfy across the line to win the girls race.
Ashville’s boys and Southside’s girls won the team titles.
They scored the race old-school. The timing company contracted to score the event had to cancel after losing several of its vans in the Birmingham flooding Wednesday night, so meet officials scored the race by hand.
“We said (assistant coach) Rex (McAllister) has been waitinig for this moment of glory for years, with that notepad he carries around every race,” PV coach Brad Hood said. “It was OK. It went well, really.”
