“The Community Scholarship Program reflects our belief potential exists in every corner of Alabama,” Alabama Power Foundation President Staci Brown Brooks said. “We are proud to invest in students across our service territory whose leadership and talent will shape the future.”

The Alabama Power Foundation launched the Community Scholars Program in April 2026. The program is open to high school seniors who reside within Alabama Power’s 59-county service territory and demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and commitment to their communities. One scholarship recipient was selected from each eligible county.

The foundation partnered with Scholarship America to administer the program. More than 1,000 applications were reviewed, with recipients selected based on criteria including academic performance, leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience and personal circumstances.

Boyd graduated from Cleburne County High School in May and was selected to represent Cleburne County in the inaugural class of Community Scholars.

“Receiving this scholarship is more than financial support; it is a reminder that my hard work, faith, and perseverance have not gone unnoticed,” Boyd said. “I am truly grateful for this opportunity and excited to begin my journey at Alabama A&M University, where I hope to grow, serve others, and make a lasting impact.”

The Community Scholars Program is designed to support students pursuing a range of postsecondary options, including four-year universities, community colleges and vocational programs.

Applications for students graduating during the 2026-27 school year are scheduled to open Oct. 12 and close Dec. 7, 2026.
