CLEBURNE COUNTY, AL – In celebration of Earth Day, North Alabama Trails and Recreation (NATR) is partnering with Cleburne County Middle School for a large-scale cleanup effort on Tuesday, April 22nd. The event will engage 120 seventh-grade students in an initiative aimed at environmental stewardship and community service.
The event, supported by the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO), will take place from 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM. It will involve students cleaning up multiple locations, including school campuses, river access points, and Cahulga Creek Park. The initiative is designed to instill a sense of responsibility for the environment while making a tangible impact in the community.
To add an element of excitement, a friendly competition between boys and girls will be held to determine who can collect the most trash. The winning team will earn bragging rights and be awarded the coveted Earth Day Clean-Up Trophy.
Event Schedule:
- 8:00 AM – Earth Day and Leave No Trace Briefing at Cleburne County Middle School
- 8:30 AM – Cleanup of Cleburne County Middle, Elementary, and High School campuses
- 9:30 AM – Depart for river access cleanups
- 11:00 AM – Depart for Cahulga Creek Park
- 11:30 AM – Lunch break
- 12:15 PM – Cleanup at Cahulga Creek Park
- 1:15 PM – Trophy announcement and celebratory group photo
- 1:45 PM – Student departure
