Calhoun County, AL – Ohatchee, Munford reach the finals in their respective weekend tournaments,

The Ohatchee volleyball team’s strong start to the season continued Saturday as the Lady Indians got all the way to finals of the Supreme Courts Tournament before suffering their first loss to the season in the title match, 2-0 to Guntersville. The Lady Indians (9-1) beat St. Clair County, Spring Garden, Boaz, Oneonta and DAR before losing to the Lady Wildcats 25-14, 22-25.

“My girls played absolutely lights out all day long,” Ohatchee coach Rebecca Hughes said. “I was so proud of them for coming out and dominating so well. “We basically ran out of gas towards the end and couldn’t get anything going for us against a really good Guntersville team.” Jorda Crook had 74 kills, 21 blocks, 22 digs and six aces in the tournament for the Lady Indians.

Donoho went 2-2 here Saturday, ultimately falling to DAR in the gold bracket 25-23, 25-14. They beat Muscle Shoals (25-19, 25-23) and Brewer (26-24, 25-20, 15-13) and lost to Guntersville (25-23, 25-14). Lily Grace Draper led the Lady Falcons with 31 kills and 26 digs. Sam Wakefield had 70 assists and 25 digs. Sarah Waggoner had 49 digs.

Pleasant Valley went 1-3 in the tournament, falling to Guntersville in the gold bracket 25-22, 25-22. In pool play, the Lady Raiders beat Haleyville 25-17, 26-24, but lost to DAR and Ramsay both in third-set tiebreakers. “We didn’t start the day off playing our game, but picked it up late in pool play,” PV coach Dana Bryant said.

Lady Lion Classic

Munford, AL  — Host Munford made it to the finals of its own tournament, but lost to Cleburne County in the championship match 25-18, 25-14. The Lady Lions (9-2) beat Faith Christian 25-19, 25-15, 25-15; Saks 25-11, 25-13, 25-10; and Benjamin Russell 22-25, 27-25, 15-10 to reach the finals. Anijah Gladden and Kyleigh Hurst made the all-tournament team. Gladden had 25 kills, 13 aces, 21 digs, four assists and a block. Hurst had 103 assists, five aces, two kills and 11 digs.

Vestavia Tournament

Vestavia, AL  — Oxford went 1-2 in the tournament, beating Springville 3-1 (23-25, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11) and losing to Chelsea 3-0 and Fairhope 0-2. The Lady Jackets (3-7) played 3-of-5 matches in pool play to offset the withdrawal of Alexandria, which had to pull out due to a wave of COVID going through the team. Lady Cubs coach Whitney Welch said she hoped her team can return to the floor on Tuesday.
