Calhoun County EMA released notice that in the the Talladega National Forest the Talladega Ranger District is planning to burn 590 acres today, 3 miles East of Munford and 1 mile South of Oxford FS rd 644C and FS rd 644 form a portion of this burn boundary and should be traveled with caution. During today’s burn, the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment. Smoke may also be visible on Highway 281 East of this burn area.
The wind is expected to be out of the West and carry the smoke to the East towards the Hollis Crossroads and Wedowee area. As the temperatures cool later today, the smoke may begin to settle down a tributary of Choccolocco Creek. Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn. If encountering smoke on roadways, please slow down, turn on your low-beam headlights and use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.
Remember, a prescribed burn is a controlled fire ignited by professionally trained and experienced Forest Service personnel.
