Alexandria, AL – Alexandria’s Thompson, Dickerson and Folsom add to big year of signings for Alexandria High School athletes.

It’s been quite a school year for memorabilia tables in the Larry R. Ginn Gymnasium lobby and and signing stations stretching across the playing floor, and three more had their day Friday.

Baseball second baseman Nic Thompson signed with Chattanooga State Community College, volleyball hitter Kailey Dickerson with Wallace State Community College and football long snapper Caleb Folsom with Cumberland University.

This to cap a school year that included a nine-athlete signing ceremony in November.

Thompson, who transferred from Donoho, helped Alexandria win its first state baseball title this season. The Valley Cubs swept Mobile Christian in the Class 5A title series, winning 2-1 on Monday and 8-4 on Tuesday on Jacksonville State University’s Rudy Abbott Field.

His opportunity to play in college started during Alexandria’s classic, 11-inning Calhoun County championship game against Oxford.

“When that was broadcasted, a lot of coaches got in touch with me, and one of them was Chattanooga State and a couple of other JUCOs,” he said. “I found my home at Chattanooga State. Great place to live, great ball program, and the way Coach (Greg) Dennis does things up there, I really love.”

Dickerson, a two-time Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County player of the year, helped to hit Alexandria’s way to a Class 5A state-semifinal finish. Wallace’s staff has looked at her for everything from hitting to libero.

“I had an offer from Gadsden (State), but I played in spring with Wallace,” she said. “I was really excited with how that went, and I signed before that.

“I just thought that was the best decision because a lot of my friends are going there, and I met new people, and I love Coach (Randy) Daniel. He’s a great coach, and I know he’ll help us win. That’s my goal is getting better, winning and moving onto a four year (school).”

Folsom has served as the first element of the kicking battery that helped Alexandria kicker Cleat Forrest achieve multiple all-state selections. Folsom was also the backup third baseman in baseball.

His chance to snap on in college came after being seen in summer camps.

“I went to a couple of camps over the summer and worked, and they reached out,” he said. “That started a line of communication, and I ended up going up there for a visit and enjoyed it a lot.”
