Dallas, TX – Jax State’s Huff conference player of the year, newcomer of the year. Rodriguez named coach of the year.
Jax State quarterback Tyler Huff was named the Conference USA player and newcomer of the year Wednesday, and Rich Rodriguez is coach of the year.
Huff, the senior in his first season with the Gamecocks after transferring from Furman, finished as the third-leading rusher in CUSA at 103.3 yards per game with 14 touchdowns He completed more than 60 percent of his passes for 2,179 yards and 13 touchdowns.
He was a two-time CUSA offensive player of the week and had nine games with more than 150 passing yards and six 100-yard rushing performances. He was most valuable player of the CUSA Championship with 176 yards passing and two touchdowns and another 167 yards on the ground with a touchdown
Rodriguez guided the Gamecocks to a 7-1 record in CUSA in the Gamecocks’ second season as a member of the league. The team hosted and won the conference championship game in their first year of eligibility to do so.
Jax State is also Bowl-eligible for the second time in as many years under Rodriguez and will play Ohio in the StaffDNA Cure Bowl on Dec. 20.
Jax State put together the top scoring offense in the conference at 36.7 points per game and the top gaining offense at 444.4 yards per game.
