Weaver, AL – History was made in Weaver on Tuesday, December 10th, as Danielle Presley was sworn in as the newest member of the Weaver City Council, filling the seat left vacant by the passing of Councilmember Terri Summerlin. Presley’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the city, becoming the first minority woman to hold this position.
Presley, an active Weaver resident known for her engagement in city affairs, expressed excitement and anticipation about stepping into her new role. “I was very excited and very anxious at the same time,” she shared. “This is a new endeavor and challenge, and being part of the council in a city like Weaver is a great honor. I look forward to presenting myself to the community and working alongside my fellow councilmembers.”
Presley’s dedication to Weaver is deeply rooted in her upbringing. “Ever since I was young, my parents instilled in me the importance of being involved in your community and knowing what’s going on around you,” she said. Her longstanding attendance at council meetings reflects her commitment to civic engagement and a desire to give back.
For Presley, her historic appointment is more than a personal achievement—it’s an opportunity to inspire. “It really encourages me to hold this honor,” she said. “Being the first minority woman in this position shows how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go. I hope this inspires others, particularly minorities, to see the importance of public service and becoming more involved.”
Presley plans to prioritize youth engagement and address underrepresented areas within the community. “I want to hear what the youth want and need because they are the next generation to carry our community forward,” she explained. “It’s also important to listen to the voices of those who feel unheard and work toward positive change.”
The Weaver City Council and Mayor Jeff Clendenning have expressed strong support for Presley’s appointment. Mayor Clendenning said, “We are proud to have Danielle Presley on the Weaver City Council. Councilmember Summerlin is missed, but I am looking forward to working with Danielle and believe she will do an outstanding job.”
Councilmember Cathy Hamby praised Presley’s track record, saying, “She is a first-class act. Not only will she be a true asset to the council, but she’s also making history. It will be an honor to serve alongside her.”
Other councilmembers echoed similar sentiments Tim McRae: “I feel like she will be an extraordinary team member and do an excellent job for the citizens of Weaver.” Clint Burns: “I know she will be a great asset to the City of Weaver! I look forward to serving with her.” Nick Bowles: “Danielle has been active with the city ever since she moved here. We’re excited to give this opportunity to someone who genuinely cares about Weaver. I’m sure she will bring fresh ideas and insights.”
Presley was officially sworn in by Judge Rogers, surrounded by her parents, aunt, church members, and colleagues. Reflecting on the ceremony, she extended her gratitude to the council and staff. “I thank them for seeing value in me and supporting me as I take on this new journey. It’s an honor to serve alongside experienced members and learn from them.”
